I didn’t like New York

NEW YORK : Too much happening around

The city is busy. The city is tall. The city is city. Traffic. More people. Honking cars. Flooded with tourists. Food trucks. Halal food. Too much light. Too many dreams.

It is all BLING BLING. It is chaotic. It is unorganised. IT doesn’t breathe well with me. As I entered New York, everything seemed so loud.

The subways are nicely connected. Dark. A little unclean. Did I miss seeing statue of Liberty? Technically no – As I saw it from a distance. Did I see 9/11 memorial? Technically Yes. The roof top windy bar and a dark noisy local NY bar (which only accepted cash – yes in 2017).

I loved…

I loved Brooklyn Bridge and the area around. I loved speaking Hindi with the halal street food guy. I loved the view from 86th floor of Empire estate building. PLEASE do not buy ticket for 102nd floor for 20$ – It looks the same. I loved strolling in central park. I loved street artists. I loved central park Polaroid project.

Had a glimpse of Union square market. Had a glimpse of Halloween shop (and shopping with Rachel). Had a glimpse of New York Stock Exchange. Had a glimpse of wall street. The trinity church and the charging bull – looking at the ‘fearless statue’. I have no idea why people are so curious to touch the bull’s ass and balls.

The High line walk was the best part of my NY trip. A quiet walk looking at the tall buildings and hidden old New York. As described as Revived piece of New York History. You can read more here.

Times Square. Everyone wanted a selfie with blazing street walls with ads. I could see $ being burnt over ads. I can’t recollect a single brand ad that I saw. Somehow, I was out-of-place for the square.

It is ok not to like a place. Right?

I walked. I looked up. Searching for the NY which I would like. But no. I didn’t like New York.

Is there a city which felt out-of-place for you? Would love to hear your experience. Do share this post with your friends who visited New York 🙂
